Boshotel Overberg

Room 100 has a lovely forest view, plenty of space, a separate living area and a spa bath. Dogs are welcome even in the restaurant, and tea and coffee were available free at reception and in the room. We were also allowed to check in 20 minutes early. The suite badly needs renovation. The floor is scratched and marked, the walls are cracked and stained, the wood and furniture have water damage and burn marks, and the only chair has a broken back. The double bed is two singles pushed together, one missing a leg, so it feels unstable. There’s limescale on the bathroom door, fittings and tiles. Cleanliness throughout was poor: thick black dirt along the baseboards, stained elevator and doors, and a sticky spill outside our room that made our shoes stick. The shared areas looked neglected for months. At check-in they tried to charge more than the confirmed price in their email. I pointed it out and they corrected the amount without saying anything. We wanted to complain, but reception was unattended. We went hiking and came back to a sign saying it closed at 5 PM. At checkout the next morning we raised the issues, and they said they would tell maintenance.

The desk staff and breakfast service were nice. The room design, though, was terrible for sharing. There’s one sliding glass door for the toilet or the shower, so you can’t close both at once. And whenever someone uses either, light spills into the whole room, even at 2 am.

We’d already paid for Easter brunch, but the restaurant couldn’t find it in their system and charged us again. The waitresses were very pushy about making us pay, without first trying to sort it out with reception. The receptionist told us the next day that the hotel restaurant had made a mistake and refunded the money. It left us with a really bad customer experience.

The place is in a nice area, but right beside a road, so we heard cars going by all evening, overnight and into the morning. Inside, the rooms smell damp, and so do the corridor and the rest of the hotel. The internet barely worked, and breakfast was very poor. The bathroom is part of the same room, separated only by a wardrobe about a metre high. The toilet and shower have sliding doors that don’t close properly, so bathroom smells spread through the room. Everything felt dirty and worn out, with mold and damaged parts.
