Hotel De Gulden Waagen

The location is the one real plus: a lovely, cosy street with plenty to see and some good cafés. The room had what I needed, but it felt unattended when I walked in. The sheets didn't fit the bed properly, and there was only one cup by the coffee machine, left displaced with a spoon inside. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone expecting much from a hotel night away. If you're travelling for work and just want something quick, easy and anonymous, it might suit you, though it isn't cheap. All the bedding was synthetic, and the beds were so soft I couldn't get comfortable. I ended up sleeping on the topper on the floor, which wasn't what I had in mind when I booked a hotel. I had emailed to ask for a quiet room and, if possible, a firm mattress for my back, but got no reply. Instead, I was given a street-facing room with very soft beds. Phone contact was okay in that someone answered, but it didn't sound like the person was actually hotel staff, more like some random person. I arrived around 8 PM and rang the bell. That person opened the door, and that was my only in-person contact. There's no one at reception, just a key card left ready for you. They also misspelled my name. I paid EUR 116, which is not nothing. Never again. I was alone, and the thought of staying here with my partner makes me say no thanks.

I had to cancel my planned stay and have spent 10 months trying to get my money back. My emails go unanswered, and when I reach someone, they tell me to call back. It was $2500, and I don't think I'll ever get it back.

A great find right in town, with immaculate rooms. Parking can be a challenge, but it is possible. Very good hotel.

There are plenty of nice places for breakfast on the street, since breakfast wasn't available at the hotel. Our room was spacious, clean and nice. It's an authentic hotel near the start of the city, close to the train and parking.
