Postillion Hotel Amersfoort Veluwemeer

Our room had a door straight out to the lake, a great spot for watching the sunset, having morning coffee and getting some sun. We stayed at Postillion hotel for a relaxing getaway with our dog, using the special two-night package with a three-course dinner. He had a special treat, and we loved that he could join us on the terrace. We rented bikes for a day and went to Harderwijk, which turned out to be a lovely surprise. Dinner was nice, with different options each day. I’m gluten-free, which wasn’t a problem, and gluten-free bread was available at the buffet breakfast on request. We got lucky with the weather and hope to come back. It was easy to get to, and a nice way to enjoy nature outside the city. We saw people bringing their own bikes, picnic blankets and even lawn chairs to make the most of it. I’m not sure if you can swim right there, but there were several nice swimming spots very close. The water was shallow, and one person brought their own SUP and used it at the resort. We were very pleased with the stay.

I was surprised by the poor reviews after staying here. We had a great experience: free parking, friendly and helpful staff, clean, spacious rooms with comfortable beds, a lovely lake and sunset view, and a huge breakfast selection. There were refugees staying here too. I met two in the hallway on my way to my room; they were friendly and said hi back. They were no problem at all. I’d definitely stay again.

The hotel has friendly staff and good service, and our room was spacious with a comfy bed and working AC. There were some bugs on the wall, though, and it could have been cleaned better. Parking is free, but you need to get your ticket validated at reception. The hotel welcomes dogs, but dogs aren’t allowed on the nearby beaches from May to October, so we wouldn’t come in those months. There is a dog beach on the other side, but you need a car and parking is about 5 euros. I was very disappointed with breakfast for the price. There wasn’t much choice, several items were empty, and they only refilled them after we asked.

I booked directly through the hotel and didn’t realize it was an early-bird reservation. They won’t let me cancel or refund my $700, even though I gave six weeks’ notice. I wonder if they’ll refund the champagne I ordered. Check the cancellation policy carefully when booking. I won’t use this hotel again.
