Hotel Het Wapen van Drenthe

The location is spot on, with shops and cafes a good distance away, and breakfast had lots to choose from and was good. Service in the restaurant was good too. The rooms are small, though. During our stay there was building work, and being woken at 7:30 by drilling and banging really bothered me. Still worth a visit.

I expected to stay here, but the rooms felt horrible and scary. The bathroom was the only part that seemed more or less okay. It felt more like a motel than a hotel. From the window, there were two kitchen ventilation chimneys, with the cooking smell and fan noise coming in. Instead of coffee or tea, there were earplugs in the room. At first I was puzzled about why, then around 9 pm live music started downstairs in the restaurant and the floors began shaking. The earplugs felt like a joke with a sense of humor, I loved that part, as shown in the picture. I couldn't stay and left the same day, switching to the nearby Best Western. There was no live music there when you didn't want it, and it was very quiet.

The staff were very friendly, and the room was cozy, quiet, and had everything I needed. Breakfast was a full English spread with lots of bread, rolls and croissants, cereals and fresh fruit. They also had freshly made orange juice, milk and honey, different jams, cheese, bacon, yoghurts, and teas and coffees.

It's a lovely cafe restaurant with a broad terrace where you can enjoy the sun and get some shelter from strong wind or rain if needed. The surroundings are nice, the food tastes good, and it's easy to get there by bike or car.
