H3 Hotel Rotterdam City Center

The bed was comfy and clean, and we always had hot water for bathing. The room was very small, though, so if you’re tall or have a bigger build it might feel too cramped. It was enough for me at 165cm 😁. The price and location made it worth it for our stay, even if it wasn’t the best hotel experience. The lobby is quite nice too, and the owner’s cat, I assume, sometimes greets you at the front desk or in the lobby. It’s a good price hotel in a good location. I didn’t take photos, but the other reviewers’ photos match it exactly. Service is limited, as expected. There’s no kettle in the room, but you can ask for hot water or anything else at the front desk, which is open 24/7, and you have to collect it yourself. There’s a lift for big luggage, though first you need to carry it up several steps or a floor. I couldn’t figure out the air con, but Rotterdam was chilly when I visited, so I didn’t need it.

On the way to my rented room, they copied my ID card, which was fine. But when I got there, the bathroom was dirty and there was hair on the bed. It was tolerable, though I would’ve liked a bit more care. First I couldn’t tell whether I was arriving at a hotel or a check-in office. The treatment I got for my own money was appalling. After going out to meet a friend, I came back wanting a drink and some time in my room before leaving the country. The man at reception immediately asked who I was with, then said the person couldn’t come to my room. It was a complete disgrace. If I’m the one staying there, it’s none of your business. He also copied my friend’s ID. I’ve never had another hotel or guesthouse do anything like this. What kind of treatment is that? The man can’t even speak Dutch. He should focus on his language instead of interfering in guests’ private lives.

It’s right in the centre of Rotterdam, about a 10-minute walk from the train station and maybe five minutes from the nearest tram stop. I’d stay again. The place could use an update and new beds or bedding, but for the price it isn’t bad, and nowhere near as awful as some recent reviews make out. I was concerned about the bed bug reviews, so I contacted the hotel the day before my visit. They said there was nothing to worry about, and they were right. I checked the sheets, flipped the mattress, looked between the pillows and all around, and couldn’t find any sign of bed bugs.

The handles on both bathroom doors weren’t attached properly and fell off every time I opened a door. Cleaning the room left a lot to be desired, and the hotel entrance smelled of sewage. When I arrived, there was no receptionist to check me in, and nobody answered the phone for over 20 minutes. Just a general disappointment. Avoid this place at all costs!
