Hilton Rotterdam

The comfortable bed and pillows, clean room and bathroom, and one friendly person in the breakfast and bar area were bright spots. But after two nights at Hilton Rotterdam, the hotel felt well below what I’d expect from a five star stay. The building and rooms looked heavily worn, with damaged elevators, walls, and furniture, scratched pieces and a warped desk. Our room change brought us to the 10th floor, where the window was fogged between the panes and we couldn’t see outside. The minibar there didn’t work either. We reported it, but heard nothing further and weren’t offered compensation. We’d paid on site for a higher room category with Executive Lounge access and breakfast, but reception didn’t explain where these were or how to use them. When we extended by a night and booked again online with lounge access, it wasn’t put on our key. I had to explain more than once and show the booking proof before they fixed it, with no apology. Breakfast access failed the next morning too, so I went back to reception and explained it all again. Still no apology. The worst part was the Executive Lounge. One staff member, an old blond lady, spoke to my partner and me in a humiliating, condescending way, laughed at us, was rude, and intruded on our private conversation. Reception’s missing information had caused confusion, but she handled it terribly. We paid for access and then avoided the lounge. We even started looking for another hotel for our third night in Rotterdam and decided not to extend our stay. The link provided in response to this review isn’t very helpful. Service like this didn’t match a five star Hilton.

The room cost 1.6kEUR for two nights and didn’t match its description, with no bathtub or balcony. When I asked about the missing features during check-in, a security guard got involved and the option offered was a refund so I could rebook elsewhere, as though that made sense once I was already checking in. The staff seemed not to care. There were also twenty-something-year-olds constantly showing off rented cars in the parking lot. I guess that’s the sort of quality you get at Hilton everywhere. Should’ve known. I won’t book here again. Marriott is just around the corner and seemed nicer and better suited. Way overpriced.

The breakfast was great, and the Executive lounge was nice. Everyone on staff was helpful and ready to assist. It’s only a relatively short walk from the train station, and there’s a subway/light rail stop just steps away. I’d recommend renting their bikes for a ride around, maybe down to Markthal, about 10-15 min with lights. We stayed in Oct. 2025 and are going back in April this year.

We got a free upgrade to a beautiful suite, which was a lovely surprise. The hotel is a bit older but still nice, and its central spot close to the train station worked really well. The Executive Lounge is quite big, with lots of space, and breakfast had a good selection. Staff were very friendly and always seemed keen to help guests. Thank you!
