Mr.Lewis Hotel Rotterdam

A great place within walking distance of downtown. Check-in and check-out are fully automated. My room was modern and quiet, with a high ceiling, small fridge and comfortable bed, and it was clean.

It's close to the city centre, but my room was on the fourth floor and there was no elevator. The stairs were narrow and steep, with 55 steps, so carrying luggage up was hard. I also didn't feel safe staying on the fourth floor: if there were a fire, I don't think we could get down to the first floor using those stairs. There was no fire extinguisher.

The owner sets their own policy, and this was the worst hotel experience I've had. From the replies to reviews, it seems they don't care about hospitality or hotel services. I booked on their website. When I arrived, they required a €100 deposit by credit card for one night in a small room, then said it would be held for a week. That made no sense to me. I called because there's no receptionist and asked to pay cash. They refused, but said they could cancel and refund the booking. I hadn't asked them to cancel, yet they did. I still haven't received the refund. After several unanswered emails, I called and was told it wasn't refundable. I called the police, but they weren't concerned about this kind of issue. I'm trying to find tourism customer support to report it. I don't recommend staying here if you're willing to risk losing money because of a hidden policy. I found other hotels in the same area that were very good, cheaper, and more flexible, like hotels elsewhere in the world.

The simple, clean little room did what I needed, and the price was economical. Digital access and check-in were easy. It's a 15-20 minute walk from Rotterdam Central Station, in a nice residential area across from a canal, with cafes, diners, bars and some shops nearby. Thanks!
