Stadsvilla Mout

We had such a good time that we’d love to visit again. The staff were kind and incredibly helpful, and the local area has a real charm. I found it more beautiful than Rotterdam city, with little canals, plenty of restaurants and cafes, and shops for essentials. It is a little outside the city, but the transport is easy to use and fun for a tourist like me. Tram and bus stops are only a five-minute walk away, and the ride into town takes around 25 minutes. We had no complaints.

The hotel handled the ant problem well once we reported it: they moved us to another room, which was an upgrade, and the room with ants was closed off and seemed to get a deep clean. The outbreak happened during unusually hot weather, so I know that can happen. Still, the replacement room wasn’t ready until noon after the issue came up around 8 AM, and I wasn’t ready to leave yet. We had breakfast mainly so we’d have somewhere to sit and get coffee, then I had to get ready in a ground-floor toilet with no plugs, so I couldn’t do my hair for the day. At checkout, I was surprised to pay nearly 40 euro for both breakfasts at full price. I thought they might make an allowance given the circumstances, but we paid. The hotel is in a lovely location, the rooms are spotless, and I would go back. The breakfast itself wasn’t great in my opinion, though others may feel differently. My review would have been higher if this hadn’t happened, and I think I’m still being fair.

The room was spacious and lovely, with a dining table and a small kitchen, and there’s a lift for anyone bringing large suitcases. The staff were very nice too. The hotel is quite far from Rotterdam city center, though I really liked the peaceful, quiet neighborhood. One thing we didn’t like was the shower area, since water came out onto the floor whenever we showered.

Schiedam itself is beautiful and calming, and it’s only a 10-minute train or metro trip to Rotterdam. Our room was spotless and beautifully furnished, with a kitchenette and a view of the canal; the beds were extremely comfortable. Every staff member welcomed us warmly, from reception to the lovely, kind breakfast staff, and each conversation came with a smile. We only stayed two nights, but this definitely won’t be our last visit.
