Hotel het Valkennest

The rooms were clean, though very small, and the parking behind the house was awkward. Lots of guests had bikes attached to their cars, which made getting in and out difficult, so we chose to park on the street. We were about 1-2 kilometres from Valckenburg. The bigger problem was that our room had no toilet. Staff said some rooms share the corridor toilet, even though all rooms cost the same. Having to walk down the hall in pyjamas at night while other guests had private toilets felt unfair. When I raised it, staff just shrugged. They spoke no German and only broken English, so there was a language barrier. At night we heard what seemed like a family of mice above our room. I understand this is a rural place, but I don't want to hear rodents partying overhead. We asked the next day about changing rooms or another solution and got another shrug, plus “there's nothing we can do.” We considered leaving a night early, but didn't want to spoil the holiday. On the last day we returned very late, slept only a few hours, then left. Too bad.
