Buitengoed Het Achterdiep

I left Ter Apel feeling completely recharged. We stayed in the caravan 't Olde Graitje, with a roomy pitch and peaceful surroundings. Ronald and Diana had everything arranged perfectly, including the breakfast we booked.

The breakfast was fantastic, and the warm welcome from Ronald and Diana made us feel at home. You can see how much care has gone into this little, quiet campsite, right down to the special details. For the price, it’s easily worth five stars. Ter Apel is a charming village, and from its green surroundings it’s easy to get to nature, culture, and nearby villages. We visited Wildlands, the Veenkoloniaal Museum, and Veenpark, where you can even see a traditional clog maker. Such a gem of a spot in Groningen!

We turned up unexpectedly with three families, two large campers and a caravan, and were welcomed so warmly. The bathroom facilities were clean and tidy, and the shower had great pressure. We had a few really peaceful days here.

Ter Apel is a lovely village, with shops and a few snack bars, and the area is great for cycling. We’d wanted to visit the Ter Apel Monastery for ages, so when we found room at Camping Achterdiep, we were glad we came. It’s a small SVR campsite run with care by a kind couple. The pitches are spacious and quiet, and there’s lots of information about the area. You can keep your bikes in a shed, which also has a pleasant sitting spot for bad weather. The sanitary facilities were clean and excellent. Warm bread comes out in a basket in the morning, and the price is great. The monastery is well worth seeing.
