Hotel Hoevevoorde

I wouldn't stay here again. After hours of travel, we expected a nice room but arrived to find ours hadn't been cleaned. The pictures made the place look much nicer than it was. We told the front desk, and they apologized, offered a round of drinks, and said the room would be cleaned in 10 minutes instead of offering us another one. They did clean it, but I was very disappointed with how they handled such a big issue. The room was tiny, the bed was uncomfortable, the shower pressure was poor, and the walls were so thin that it was noisy all the time. Even with a private room, it felt more like staying in a hostel than a nice hotel. The price is high, and I think you could get better sleep elsewhere. I can't recommend it.

The room was clean and the food was good, and there were some nice things about the room, though it felt too white. I didn't feel welcome, and the hotel service was really bad. I was given a 'luxury room' because the others were taken, but the WiFi signal was dead, so I couldn't use the internet for casting or TV. The staff were really sweet, but it seemed like their bosses weren't taking good care of them or the service. During breakfast, a man bossed people around about the tables while I was eating. I know Dutch horeca can be mean, but that isn't decent behavior, and as a very sensitive person it really stings. Maybe it's nice for work meetings, but not so much as a hotel.

Of the 8 hotels I stayed in on this holiday, this was the worst. The photos make it look great, but it's rundown. The room was small, and the bed was so tiny it was hardly a two-person bed. Ventilation hummed noisily all night, but the bathroom had no connection to it. Instead, an open air duct led to the smoking area and garbage storage. The smell got worse through the night and seeped into the room. What was meant to be a relaxing last night before the drive home turned into a worthless stay. I left more tired than when I arrived.

The staff were very friendly and really tried to make things right, and the restaurant was nice. Breakfast was okay, though there was limited choice in the morning. The young women serving were too busy talking, while the older lady was much more serious. The hotel could be better once the renovation is finished, since the bathrooms have been fully renovated but the rooms haven't yet. Unfortunately, we had to change rooms because the bed in ours hadn't been changed and was too dirty. The rooms also smelled of dirty water.
