Limehome Den Haag Nieuwstraat

Brand new, but there was no hot water.

We never even got to stay, but our money was kept. We booked the Limehome Den Haag Nieuwstraat hotel through booking.com, then noticed we’d chosen the wrong dates and cancelled. I don’t think anyone was at fault, but the hotel kept €150 for two nights and hasn’t refunded a cent. They don’t deserve that money.

The room looked nice, but it was dirty and poorly cared for. Under the bed were dust, hair and things left by the previous guest, including a mobile phone. There were no towel rails or anywhere to hang bath towels. The sinks in both the kitchen and bathroom drained very slowly, and so did the shower, leaving you standing in a puddle. Wi-Fi stayed broken for our entire visit, despite a promise to fix it within 48 hours. The location is the best part: right in the lively pedestrian area of the city centre, with sights like Binnenhof and Mauritshuis within walking distance.

We were disappointed that we paid for a balcony we couldn't access, though it wouldn't put us off returning. The renovated apartment was room 201, with a large bathroom and a great central location, but it was noisy at night. Our access code arrived on time. The kitchen had a large fridge, double hob, Nespresso machine and kettle. A microwave might be a useful addition.
