Van Der Valk Hotel Stein - Urmond

I had to stay because I was already late for an outside business meeting, and after coming back exhausted, I didn’t have the energy to argue with reception. The staff were smiling, but I wondered if they’d been told to give me this kind of room because I got a discounted price on the Van Der Valk website. I have no idea, but I don’t understand why a room like this was being sold. They offered me another room, but it was in the same condition. I asked if I could email photos to the director and was refused. I hope the director sees them here. The room was unacceptable, even for a hotel with no stars. The bathroom tiles had a thick layer of grime, with mold on the walls, in the shower, and along the seals. There was dust and spider webs in the room, plus a strong cigarette smell. The mattress was completely broken, not just a mattress with two levels, and I only noticed the next morning after a very bad night’s sleep. Please look at the photos. I included pictures of everything I described, so you can see I’m not exaggerating. Shame, shame, shame.

The staff were nice and very friendly, with a mild sense of humor. The hotel was very clean, and breakfast was really good, with lots of tasty things, especially the bacon and salmon, plus a selection of fruit. I was invited to breakfast with my family.

The restaurant has a modern look, and I liked the service during my business lunch here. There’s a large free parking area for visitors. The hotel is well located near Sittard, with easy access to the highways.

We had a large family room that was nicely decorated and very quiet. The restaurant was great for both breakfast and dinner, and there was plenty of free parking as well as a bike room. It’s in a very industrial area, but that does make it easy to reach by car. A very nice hotel.
