Malie House Utrecht

We spent three weeks here and absolutely loved it. The room was small, but it didn't feel uncomfortable, and the bathroom was relatively big. Everything was very clean, nicely furnished, and pleasing to look at. My personal highlight was the scent of the soap and shampoo. I'm getting the same one for home. The reception staff were very sweet, and for the quality, the place is worth the price.

It's new and clean, but the owners seemed so cheap that there isn't a TV in any room, which was quite a surprise on arrival. In my two-room suite, the only light switches were beside the beds, with none by the door. I've never come across a hotelier who'd build a hotel without TVs or proper switches by the entrance. It was uncomfortable and annoying, and I'd never stay there again. If you don't care about a television or light switches, though, you might like it.

We had the best sleep over our two nights, thanks to the excellent mattress and linen. The room was beautifully and expensively decorated, the staff were delightful, and there are lots of little nooks to sit in downstairs. Everything was brilliant. I have nothing negative to say.

The staff were wonderful, welcoming, and helpful, and having coffee and tea available around the clock in the lounge was a real plus. The hotel has been beautifully refurbished recently, and I had a great stay. The short walk out of the city center is a pleasure, and the quality and atmosphere make it worth it. I'd happily come back. There were a few opening snags in the bedrooms. The glass bathroom doors let in a lot of drafts and offer very little privacy. The pillows and duvets were very thick, and when I asked, it seemed they only had one of each per person, with no alternatives. Vents built into each bedroom window affected the temperature a lot, and the bathroom vent was hard and potentially dangerous to reach when wet.
