Hotel 2000

We paid 110euro for one night with parking and breakfast, and expected at least a decent night's sleep. Instead, our room was above a dark, old and dirty-looking bar and restaurant that set a bad tone for the stay. The receptionist was unprofessional, there were several hairs on the bed, the staircase was old and felt unsafe, and street and corridor noise came through because the sound insulation was poor. For reasons of hygiene and safety alone, the very quaint city of Valkenburg schools seriously concern to deal with these hotels.

I was stuck in Valkenburg because of NS train personnel strikes and managed to get a room for 40 euros. It was small and minimal, but very clean and tidy. Breakfast was a nice buffet with enough choices. It worked perfectly as a checkpoint.

The three evening meals were delicious, the staff were wonderful and helpful, and they even upgraded my parents on the last night. My own room, though, was tired and badly in need of updating. The rooms shown in the pictures are from the new build at the back of the complex.

I've been coming back for many years and I'm happy with the location. The rooms could use renovation, but they're okay. There's a newer block with rooms to choose from, with new beds at least. Breakfast used to be better, though it's still okay. I'll be back next year.
