Venlo is a beautiful, interesting city that draws plenty of tourists. My wife, our friend from the Baltic States, another friend from Germany and I had come to walk around. It was cool and drizzly, so the three of them stopped for hot coffee at Cafe “Prins Hendrik” on the first floor. I don't drink coffee and am not allowed alcohol, so when a well-dressed man came over to ask what I wanted, I politely explained that. To our shock, he told me to leave the café. There were very few customers, yet while my wife and friends drank, I had to wait outside. Why couldn't the fourth person sit with the other three? We're all over 70, and in all my travels as a sailor across countries, cities and every continent, I've never been treated so rudely or disrespectfully. It completely spoiled our good mood and positive impression of Venlo. This behavior is unacceptable, and I strongly advise people not to visit this café.

After a long, stressful travel day, I arrived at B&B Prins Hendrik in Venlo at the last minute and was welcomed with such kindness. Anneke spoke English and looked after me right away. The furnishings were a little dated, but the room was clean, the bathroom modern, and the shower had perfect water pressure. I slept wonderfully in the comfortable bed and loved the view of town from the balcony. The B&B captures the history and charm of this beautiful old Dutch town while offering modern hotel comforts like a fan, kettle, coffee and WiFi. I'd happily stay again and recommend Prins Hendrik to anyone wanting a central spot in Venlo.

We waited over 15 minutes on the terrace, trying several times to get the staff's attention. Nobody came over with a menu or took our order, so we left without getting to try the food. We'd been looking forward to a nice afternoon, but this was very disappointing. We won't be back.

We came over from Germany to visit Venlo and were glad we chose to eat here. The food was delicious, the portions were good, and the prices were absolutely fair. The staff were kind and quick. Thank you, I'll come back to this restaurant 🙂

My family and I stopped here for lunch after visiting the city quite a few times over the past decade. We had an uitsmijter ham/kaas, Portier fries, and drinks. I always enjoy having an uitsmijter when we visit the Netherlands.
