Duinlust Dishoek

This is only about the restaurant, not the hotel. The location is great, close to the beach, though you can’t actually see it from here. Inside, the atmosphere is fair, with nice colors and wall decorations. The staff were friendly and knew the menu. My partner’s salmon was delicious and the portion was decent. The Surf and Turf pork belly dish, though, was a real letdown: just two small pieces of pork belly, two shrimp, a few slices of “vegetable,” and fries. It seemed like a portion for a five-year-old. For that price, I’m taking off two stars.

Rachel made our stay especially welcoming. I first asked her for directions, then it turned out she was checking us in too. She made both us and our dog feel at home, and there was even a water bowl ready in the room. The room was comfortable and spacious for two adults and a small dog, with a roomy bathroom, mini fridge, AC, and blackout blinds. The hotel had everything we needed. Breakfast was a treat, with good variety, and we liked the restaurant’s chic decor. Zeeland is a gem, and this spot suited us well: busy but not noisy, near walking trails, the beach, and lots of places to eat. The restaurant is cozy too. Highly recommended.

This is about the restaurant only, not the hotel. We’ve happily eaten at Duinlust for years. It’s never been a three-star Michelin place, but the food and drinks used to be consistently good. We went again yesterday, and the quality seemed to have dropped a lot. The “sauvignon blanc” we were served costs €2.99 a bottle at Sligro, a restaurant wholesaler, yet we were charged almost €25 for it. It was barely drinkable. The mussels were okay, but the sauces tasted straight from the bottle and were rather greasy. The satay was poor too, with a bland sauce that didn’t deserve to be called satay sauce. It’s sad to see such a nice place decline like this, perhaps to compete on price with nearby restaurants.
