het Neerland

It was peaceful here, though there isn’t much to explore on foot. The towns nearby are easy to reach by car or bike, and the beach isn’t far either. We found this home while looking for somewhere that could fit seven people, and it worked well for our family with children. The modern house had everything we needed, and the owners looked after us so warmly. There’s a little chicken coop right beside the house, and the owner even brought us some eggs.

The apartment was spacious, with lovely meadow views, and there’s a riding school right behind it. If you love horses, you’ll be happy here, and you can keep your bikes in the barn. There’s plenty to see nearby, including Middelburg, which is an easy and beautiful bike ride away. The weather kept changing while we were there. The beach distance in the description is 2.7 km as the crow flies, but it’s nearly 4 km by bike, so bear that in mind if you’re walking. We had a delicious meal at the Botanical Garden, and there’s a pavilion on the beach. We stayed for two weeks and were a bit let down by the lack of arrival instructions. A sign showing where to check in when you drive onto the property would help. There’s a bell behind the house, which you’re expected to use. We also weren’t sure about the towel and bedding changes. We asked for fresh towels after five days and new bedding a little over a week in, but could have used clearer information about this. The hosts were friendly, and we were greeted with a lovely bottle of wine, flowers on the table, plus coffee, tea, sugar, and milk.

From this old Zeeland farmhouse, you can set off on lovely bike rides, and the beach is 3.5 km away. It’s also fun to watch the big seagoing ships on the Scheldt. The beach weather is almost always good. There are four apartments, all laid out very neatly, and horse lovers will find this a great spot.

The apartment at t Neerland is spacious and really high quality. This was our second stay, and we’ll definitely come back.
