Hotel Schimmel

The staff are really friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely. When the weather’s nice, you can sit outside, or stay in while the sliding doors are opened right up. The food is truly excellent, and it’s a great place to eat.

The lovely setting, with its beautiful white flowers, was let down by the nasty, trashy music. For me, it turned the evening into a nightmare. Apparently, background music is everywhere in the Netherlands, and life without it would be unimaginable! The food had clearly been prepared and presented with enormous care and expertise.

It feels more like a restaurant and party venue that also offers rooms than a hotel first. The rooms were OK, though a bit dated. There’s a nice bar and restaurant in a good location, and the staff are very friendly.

The hotel is nice and very central, and the front desk staff were lovely. But the bar and restaurant staff put me off. The waiter was very unpleasant. I can’t speak French, and his English wasn’t great, so he made me feel like an unwanted guest!
