Het Montferland

We were at the wedding on Friday and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Please pass on our thanks to the staff, who were all cheerful and professional. The waiters and waitresses were amazing, especially the older gentleman who remembered everyone’s drinks and kept them topped up. The service was excellent throughout. Room 6 on the second floor was clean, with a very comfortable bed and lovely clean linens. It was nothing special and could use some updating, though the bathroom was lovely.

For the price of an off-season night with breakfast, I expected a little more. From check-in to leaving, I felt more like someone just staying overnight than a guest. The beds were very soft, though I slept well. The little wooden windows were confusing to open, and while the bathroom looked great at first, a closer look was less impressive. The shower pressure was really poor. Breakfast tasted good, but coffee, café au lait, tea, and the rest weren’t self-service, so you had to ask. I’d stay one night again, but not for a longer visit.

The surroundings are beautiful, especially if you enjoy hiking or mountain biking. We had a very pleasant stay in a clean, nice room, and the breakfast was very good. We also enjoyed dinner here.

The menu has plenty of choice and the food is good quality. Prices are above average, but feel justified by the setting, presentation, and staff. The hotel is in an amazing spot on a hill in the woods, and part of the building dates back to the Middle Ages.
