Broederenklooster

I really liked everything, apart from breakfast being offered only as a three-course meal of very fancy food. I’m not a big morning eater and would rather have a little something with coffee. There are three bakeries within a block, and they do serve just coffee, but it’d be nice to have a small breakfast option too. Looking at the full kitchen, I can’t help thinking, why not?

Dinner there was excellent, and breakfast was the best I’ve ever had. It was such an exceptional experience that you have to try it to understand.

The food was wonderful, every dish delicious and beautifully presented, and the staff knew their stuff. The hotel is in a great location in a historic building. My room had atmosphere but was very dark, especially the bathroom, where only one light worked. There was no soap in the loo and the bathroom soap dispenser was empty. They refilled it but didn’t leave any for the loo. There was just one dressing gown, and the toiletries felt meagre: one tiny shower gel for two people, despite having both a bath and a separate shower. It felt a bit mean for a suite.

The accommodation was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We booked at the last minute for a spontaneous stop in Zutphen and were really glad we did. We ate dinner and breakfast at Broederenklooster, and every course was exceptional. I strongly recommend staying there.
