The rest of the hotel was actually quite good, but breakfast was a real letdown for a four-star place. I could order eggs, either an omelet or scrambled, and that was the only decent part for me. The fruit, especially the kiwis, smelled odd, the cucumbers were soggy, and the cheese looked cheap and processed. It was the pre-sliced, plastic-wrapped kind, with no variety or better-quality choices. The meal didn’t meet the standard I expected at all.

The continental breakfast had a good self-service selection. I stayed two nights, in two different rooms. The rooms in the main hotel are furnished to a higher standard than those in the annexe, though both were spacious and perfectly acceptable. It’s a quality hotel for a reasonable price.

The restaurant staff were great, and the restaurant and lounge are lovely. The quality seemed absolutely fine by Dutch standards, though the price was a little high. My room was very large, with a great river view, but it looks like it hasn’t been updated since the early 90s. The pool looked even older, more like something from the 60s. That’s a real drawback at these prices. Reception was a different story: nobody there seemed motivated, and I didn’t get a single friendly word. I’m not keen to book another stay, though I might stop for coffee if I’m nearby.

The staff were so helpful, pleasant, and polite, and breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety, including some live cooking. By the river, the setting is beautiful and very relaxing. The rooms were clean and cozy.

I only ate at the restaurant. The salmon main was delicious, and the dessert was wonderful. In good weather, sitting out on the terrace with a view over the river looks very tempting.
