Alten Lodge

The daytime ocean view is unreal, and the northern lights we saw in October 2024 were unlike anything we'd seen before. The lodge itself was fantastic for our retreat of about 30 people and two kids. It was easy to reach from Alta Airport, and the hot tub was great. There are also two saunas in the main house, plus in-floor heating. I put my blanket on the warm floor before bed and fell asleep instantly. The kitchen worked for our cook, but wasn't set up well for a large group to collect food and eat during events. I often felt in the way. The lodge is wheelchair accessible, though the exterior wooden walkway gets slippery when wet. You can sometimes hear traffic from the highway, which takes away from the feeling of being in the woods. Even so, it's a fantastic place and I'm already thinking about coming back next year.

We had 17 people in the big main cabin. The living room was cozy, the kitchen was spacious, and the Wi-Fi worked really well. My only gripe is that the bedrooms could use more space, and the bedside table could be roomier than the tree stump they have now.

The beds were comfortable and the location was lovely. It's a cozy cabin with everything you'd expect from a hotel, and a great spot for seeing the northern lights. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Alta, this lodge is worth a try.

Cabin 3 is in a great spot, with only a little road noise, and it has its own sauna. The bathroom was okay, and I liked having a smart TV, though the Wi-Fi wasn't great. The kitchen appliances are quite dated, and the bedrooms, with their bunk beds, seem better suited to kids than adults. There was also a strange smell. For what you get, I thought the price was a bit steep.
