Flatmoen Natur Lodge

We had a good stay and would recommend the cabin as a base for visiting Alta. It was clean and had the basic amenities, and breakfast was tasty with three options, which gave us some variety over multiple nights. The only snag was that the ceiling blinds wouldn't close. Luckily, we had eye masks, so it didn't bother us.

The northern lights were the highlight. Clouds often covered Alta, but the lodge was clear, and we saw the lights here each evening even though the forecast looked poor. Jonny greeted us warmly, and we really enjoyed the hospitality. Our small hut had a kitchen, a bathroom, and a bed beneath the stars. There was no storage, and we would've liked a little drawer for clothes, but we managed fine for a few days. The room temperature varied: it never felt cold compared with outside, and the bedside area was cooler, which was nice for sleeping. Warm blankets were provided. The lodge is a little outside Alta. We had a car, which made getting around easy, though I think you could manage without one. If you're looking for a special experience, this is the place.

Seeing the northern lights from my own hot tub was something I hadn't even thought to put on my bucket list. The property and rooms are stunning, and the service was incredible. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and they really went out of their way to make our stay great. Even if you can't stay overnight, the place is beautiful to visit, and the horseback northern lights tour is worth doing. The horses are very well trained, and the views are incredible. A 20/10 experience for me!

Johnny guided us along the Alta River on fjord horses, and he's the person to ask if you want to learn about farming, Norway, or horses. My girlfriend and I took the tour in January and loved it. The snowy trails were magical, and Tymian and Fjell-bloom were so calm that being with them helped us relax. I'm glad places like this, with such passionate people, exist.
