The central location and decent cleanliness were the main positives. There’s a public(?) parking garage about 150 m away. But for a place calling itself a three-star “boutique hotel,” with prices starting around $120 a night in October, I expected much more. It’s really a basic self-service place with small rooms, no reception, and a code to get through both the street entrance and your room door. You have to climb stairs from the street to the front door, so it won’t work for anyone who has trouble walking. After that, there’s a small, smelly lift with 1980s carpeting. My standard room was very bare: no clothes closet, TV, minibar, hairdryer, or iron. There was only a tiny desk, barely big enough for a laptop. The bathroom had linoleum floors and walls and a shower curtain. There’s no shared dining room, just a hallway counter with self-service coffee and tea. Breakfast, if ordered, is a ready-made sandwich with either jam or ham and cheese. I found it a bit creepy to get personal texts from the manager asking which one I wanted when there was otherwise no staff around. No real breakfast, and I’d rate it at most two stars, or one if not for daily housekeeping. It’s definitely not a “boutique” hotel.

I knew I wasn’t paying for a five-star stay, but arriving still felt a bit unsafe since this isn’t a traditional hotel. There were a couple of guys who looked sketchy by the entrance, and cigarette butts in a jar, which I appreciate, but still. Also, no TV in the room was a big miss. After a long day, I really want something to watch to unwind. 📺🤷🏼♀️ And there was a bug in the bathroom.

There’s no air conditioning, which is usually fine in Norway, but our room got hot in summer. Even with the window open, we were sweating a little at night. Street noise was the bigger problem, it carried loudly into the room. The room itself was very clean, and for a low-cost hotel it was surprisingly tidy. The check-in code arrived that morning and was easy to use for both the hotel and room doors. There’s no reception or breakfast area. I’d call it three stars, but the low price brings it up to four for me.

We liked the bright, spacious room, with nice artwork on the walls. The hotel is modern-looking, has just a few rooms on the first floor, and is within walking distance of Arendal’s little town centre. Breakfast was simple and light, and the hospitality was great. ❤️

Clean, quiet, and perfectly fine for a few nights in Arendal. The rooms are a little sparse and there’s no TV, but they’re functional and adequate. Breakfast was basic but good.
