The staff are why I’ll stay here again. I have more surgery ahead, and during a vulnerable time I felt safe and looked after. Several people kindly got crushed ice for me. Karl-Atle on the night shift even brought it to my room while I was carrying my coffee, then greeted me in the morning and asked how I was doing. Everyone was so kind and made a real difference. Thank you all. Sorry I didn’t take photos! I stayed an extra night because I wanted to be near the hospital and the staff had been so kind. I’d booked the wrong room type by mistake, and they quickly moved me to the one I needed. I’m especially grateful to Katrine, apologies if I’ve misspelled it, for pulling my unreasonably heavy rolling luggage and being so efficient and thoughtful. She remembered my name, greeted me in the mornings, and asked how I was feeling. She even worked hard to find me a second night when they were fully booked. A real professional and a credit to the hotel. Reception manager Daniel arranged an electric fan when smoke from people outside came through my small, closed window. He also said they’d ask people to smoke farther away. There are benches and ashtrays there, so it wasn’t the smokers’ fault for using that spot. The problem didn’t come back, so we resolved it. I chose the cheapest room, which was basic but clean, with a tiny refrigerator that wasn’t very cold but was extremely useful. The bathroom was clean and the water pressure fairly good. There’s an all-in-one soap in the shower and a dispenser by the sink. The bathroom door was hard to close, and I forgot to tell the staff. They can’t fix it if nobody tells them. There were no coffee facilities in the room, but a coffee machine in the restaurant was available anytime at no extra cost. The bed wasn’t very comfortable for me, though I was only a day post-op, so comfort was difficult anyway. I prefer very soft, squishy beds; this one felt medium to hard and had a thick top mattress over the main one. Most people would probably find it comfortable. I slept as well as I could in my situation. Breakfast was lovely, and I’m usually disappointed by hotel breakfasts. I only wish it went on until lunchtime so I could have had a second plate. I also ate at the restaurant. The menu was limited but nicely put together, and the food was delicious, moderately expensive, and served in a satisfying quantity. I wish I could’ve had wine, but I was taking strong pain medication. Madara, the waitress, was welcoming and friendly. The next day she asked how my recovery was going and wished me well. Parking was disappointing, especially in my condition. It’s a short walk, but still hard for me. I think parking should be included in the stay, since hotels should always have free parking for guests. Being near Oslo is probably why it’s paid. The area is peaceful and close to the water, and I’m sure there are scenic walks. Sandvika and its shopping and entertainment options are a short drive away. There’s a shop and fuel station nearby, but I didn’t explore much in my condition. I asked about cafés and restaurants and was told there weren’t any very close by.

The breakfast was rich and really good, but the rooms weren’t cleaned properly. The cups hadn’t been washed well, and the glasses had greasy fingerprints, so I had to wash everything again before using it. I wish the hotel management would keep a closer eye on how the rooms are cleaned.

The pool was a real standout, easily one of the best I’ve used on a business trip. CISK was another highlight, with excellent food, and the staff made the stay feel welcoming. Getting around was easy, with a food store two minutes away and a lovely coastal path for walks and access to the water. My room was nice, though not having a closet for clothes was inconvenient. The gym felt cramped, with low ceilings, and there was no water available. I had a pleasant stay overall, for both leisure and business.

The courtyard was lovely, and being right by the bus route made getting around simple. Our room was nice and the bed was comfortable. We visited in late May when it was around 80F/27C outside. I’d assumed there would be air conditioning, but there wasn’t; the front desk did give us a fan. I probably wouldn’t have booked if I’d realized there was no AC. If that’s not an issue for you, I’d highly recommend the hotel.

The kids were both sad to leave after such a good time, and we’d definitely come back. The pool was very good, and the sauna was excellent. We didn’t get to try the restaurant since we were out in Oslo nearly every day, but the included breakfast was amazing. The Kiwi mini supermarket directly across the road had everything we needed. The hotel was clean and looked very nice, with friendly, helpful staff who checked us in within minutes after we arrived around 9 pm on Tuesday. It’s in a beautiful rural spot near the Oslo fjords, with a fantastic beach about a 15 minute walk along the fjord, including a diving board. Getting to Asker town centre by bus was easy, and the 250 bus outside takes you straight into Oslo in about 30 minutes. We had no trouble getting there from Oslo airport after returning to the UK from six amazing nights at the Thon hotel, Vettre. Thanks to everyone there for a wonderful stay. I’d definitely recommend the Thon hotel Vettre. John pinch.
