Gudvangen Budget Hotel

The common areas are beautiful, but they aren’t being used. The location is the hotel’s best feature, close to everything in the small village. It’s a decent place with plenty of potential, though the price is high for what you get.

The shared showers and bathroom were really clean, which I was happy about. But when we checked in, our room hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guests and smelled shut in. There was a lot of downstairs space that felt wasted. With some love and care, the hotel has a lot of potential. It also doesn’t really feel like a budget stay when one night costs 2000NOK.

The room looked out at 3 waterfalls, an incredible view just beyond the window. It was spacious, quiet, and clean, with a separate entrance, and had been redecorated not long before. We got an unexpected upgrade to Cudvangen Fjordtell after booking Gudvangen Budget Hotel: at check-in we were told the premises were being prepared for summer, and the management arranged the stay. We stayed 3 nights in Gudvangen in early May and were very pleased. The room had its own bathroom and WC, a soft cozy bed, a fridge, a microwave oven, an electric kettle, disposable tea-ware, and a flat TV for those who care. There was a hairdryer, immaculate towels, and soap in the bathroom. After long hikes and walks, the tropical rain shower was just what we wanted. Breakfast was available at extra charge. A petrol station and Joker supermarket were nearby for groceries, as was a shop outlet with tasty hotdogs. The staff were very welcoming. Gudvangen is also a nice starting point to reach the beginning of Rimstigen hike, where you can enjoy an incredible fjord view. We sincerely recommend staying at that premises and are very grateful to the personnel.

The check-in desk is near the pier, in the building with the souvenir shop and restaurant. Gudvangen budget hotel works well for a layover before a fjord cruise the next day. Our room in the badger hotel was very simple and very clean, with a sink and coffee station. There’s a very clean shared toilet on the floor. Nearby are a petrol station, coffee shops, restaurants, and an amazing view. We stayed in August, and although it’s a budget hotel, the price was far from budget.
