The service was uneven, and a couple of incidents left us feeling unwelcome. One evening receptionist refused to help us order a taxi, and at times it seemed staff were hiding so guests wouldn’t disturb them. Some staff were friendly and forthcoming, which made the contrast all the more disappointing. There was a mix-up with our meals, which can happen, but the waffle served as the morning sweet dish was incredibly salty and inedible, as if they’d used salt instead of sugar. We mentioned it, but got no apology or follow-up, just an incredible dismissal. The food had great potential, and the location and views are stunning. Our basic room was adequate and had old-fashioned charm. The real issue was the varying service.

It looks clean, and the exterior fits beautifully into the fjord scenery. The location is very nice. There’s no elevator, and the staff seemed listless and inattentive, with almost everything self-service. I can understand that finding good employees in a small place isn’t easy, or maybe it’s a family-run business.

We had a wonderful meal at Kest Restaurant. The Tasting Menu focused on local produce, and every dish was delicious. Thanks, chef Cami, for an experience we won’t forget. Our host Gabi knew the food and wine well, and we added the premium wine package. The wines were a fabulous selection and paired nicely with each course. The quiet location at Hotel Aurlandsfjord was lovely, with a stunning view over the fjord from our fourth-floor room. Reception and breakfast room staff were very friendly. The buffet had a great variety, and I liked that they also offered a few hot breakfast choices served at the table. It’s only a short drive to Flam and Stegastein Viewpoint. I’d highly recommend staying here and adding the Tasting Menu experience.

There’s plenty to see and do nearby, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast is included and was great. The rooms are great too, especially on the fourth floor, which has the best views and a patio. There’s no TV or fridge, but I didn’t need either.
