For a central Bergen hotel, this boutique place under the Strawberry brand is good value, without costing a fortune. The rooms are large by European standards, quiet, and reasonably well equipped. The beds were the only comfortable ones we found in the Strawberry chain, and we actually slept well. The shower is a problem: the enclosure is cramped, water sprays everywhere, and it feels like being waterboarded. Breakfast is good, but the room is so small that sometimes you have to carry your food up a flight of stairs to the bar. Staff were friendly and helpful, even during the Norwegian hotel strike, which ended while we were there. Having one person at reception check guests in and out while also tending bar and serving drinks is a poor call by the hotel.

The location is good and the price isn’t high, but my stay was pretty disappointing. The room was underwhelming, and the bathroom’s sliding doors had wide gaps that offered little privacy. The reception is also the bar, so we had to wait while they took food and drink orders and chatted before anyone would check us in. At breakfast they’d run out of water and oat milk and didn’t refill them, and the tables were quite dirty. I stayed at another hotel nearby for the same price and had a much better experience.

The location couldn’t be more convenient, just minutes on foot from the harbour attractions and Fløibanen. The hotel was comfortable, the room was lovely, and the shower was terrific. Breakfast had a very good range of choices.

I’m not sure what makes No 13 “boutique.” It felt quite plain and basic, and didn’t match the description or the photos. For the money, it wasn’t great value. I even paid 280 NOK more than I would have on expedia for the same room.

That ceiling is incredible, and the balcony gave us a fun view of the Bergen promenade. We loved the hotel, from its gorgeous look and great location to the kind, tourist-friendly staff. Breakfast was a pleasure too.
