Scandic Bergen City

The staff were friendly, and breakfast had plenty of variety. The hotel is well located, but it feels past its best. Our room was small, with hangers but no wardrobe. We had to ask reception for a kettle, and there weren’t even drinking glasses, just a few paper cups. You can get boiling water from a machine at reception. The bathroom needs renovating. It had a bathtub but no plug.

The location is handy for the university and most tourist sights, and public transport is excellent. We had a clean, spacious room, and the customer service was great in both Norwegian and English. I especially loved the breakfast and the roomy lobby. There’s beautiful furniture and lots of different places to sit, with a cozy fireplace that’s especially nice in the evening.

The breakfast was fantastic, with a good selection and plenty of room to sit. The foyer has lots of inviting seating too, a nice spot to read or have a drink from the bar. We took the bus from the airport, then had a very short, easy walk to the hotel. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was in the newer building. It was clean, a little small, and too warm, but the shower was good. The windows faced an inner courtyard, with no view of particular interest.

Suzanne and Susanne patiently answered all our questions and found us a comfortable room. They welcomed us so warmly, as if they’d known us forever, and that made checking in feel fun instead of routine. It happened consistently during our stay at the Scandic Bergen City Hotel. My wife Karen and I adore Norway, and this made the second part of our time in Bergen even more memorable. I don’t look anything like Brad Pitt, though at 85 I reckon I have a bit of James Dean about me. Suzanne, Susanne, and Cassandra have charm, looks, efficiency, intelligence, and a sense of humour that could land them roles in the latest ‘Charlie’s Angels’. If they get that contract, Scandic Bergen City Hotel, you’ll be the one losing out.
