Fugl Fønix Hotel

We tried the veal burger and veal stew for dinner, and both were good value compared with the room. The room itself is really just somewhere to sleep. Breakfast didn’t offer much, though maybe September is already off season, since only 6-8 people came down to eat.

After a long day in the mountains, this is a great place to stop, right by the main road. I recommend the house burger, the Fønix. The fries are amazing with a milkshake, and there’s a wide range of beers too.

The place is cozy, the service is good, and there’s a nice range of food. Burgers are their specialty, with some of the best local food you can get. There are other choices too, including pasta, beef and meals for kids. It’d be even better if you could order at the table instead of at the counter.

I was only here briefly for a layover and breakfast. The staff member I met in the morning was very polite and nice, and they’d assured me that plant based milk wouldn’t be a problem if I’d told them a day or two ahead. I hadn’t, and apparently few people ask for it, so breakfast for me was oats and orange juice. Since the hotel shuts at 22:00, they called when I was arriving late and explained how to get in and check in. The room was an okay size, and the bed was soft and comfortable. There were a few small issues: it was very hot when I arrived and I couldn’t find a way to adjust the temperature; one bedside lamp had no bulb; the TV was awkwardly placed in a corner, though I didn’t use it; the bathroom towel knob was loose; and the shower water was turned up so hot it was scalding.
