Klostergården Tautra

The food is tasty, and they have their own microbrewery. It’s a great place to enjoy some quiet time, even if some people may find the location remote. There’s a lovely view across Trondheim Fjord, lots of birds, and nice paths and terrain for walks. The rooms are good, though they feel more like a bed-and-breakfast than a hotel. The service is always great.

The beach is a lovely five-minute walk away, and there are beautiful flowers all around. The people are very nice, and the cakes, dinners, and beer are good. Rooms are clean with good beds, but the bathroom is shared. Internet works in the building, though not everywhere in the garden. They can provide an invoice for your stay if you need one.

The staff were good, and the setting is beautiful. We spent two nights in the room with the canopy bed and wonderful views, but it had no door lock, so we had to leave our computers in the car. On Sunday afternoon, while I was reading, several people peered into the room while looking for the restroom. That restroom is shared with all the cafe and restaurant guests, and there were hundreds of them on a summer Sunday. The accommodation and restaurant prices also feel steep for what you get. It comes across as a bit of a cash cow.

The beer is reasonably priced for what it is. Food is another matter. Most of it tastes absolutely delicious, but the prices are so high that I’ll think twice before coming back. We paid 280kr for two thin slices of ham, some vegetables, and a cream-based mushroom sauce. One chicken leg with very little else cost 220kr, and tasted no better than frozen supermarket food from a plastic bag, cooked in the oven. It felt downright criminal. We ate there, got in the car, then had a full meal at another restaurant an hour and a half later. You’re paying for the atmosphere, not the food, and certainly not the service.
