No one was at reception, the doors were locked, and they didn’t answer the phone number I’d given advance notice I would call at night. In the end, a girl from the pub downstairs had to give me the guest card. The place feels stuck in the Cold War, in the Soviet era. It’s expensive for what you get, and they seem to trade on being the (not so) cheapest hotel when arriving in Norway, with a nice photo of the facade.

The lobby’s drapes, vases, and big painting of The Sun King gave the hotel an old Hollywood, vintage feel. Room sizes vary a lot. I saw a very small one, but it had a great view and a comfortable bed. It’s right by the train station and below Fredriksten Festning. I’d visit again.
