The breakfast room has a lovely view when the weather cooperates, though the breakfast itself could use more options. Our room was spacious and clean, and basic but fine for two. The staff were really friendly, gave us a good rundown of everything, and the service was good.
The check-in staff were friendly and gave us useful information, and the ocean view was amazing. But we were locked outside one night when the main entrance was shut and nobody was at reception. Other guests had to let us in. Breakfast was poor value at 150 kr each. One day there was nothing hot, and there was never fruit, mostly just bread, cheese, and cold cuts. We also had no spare toilet paper, bath mat, or shampoo. This place could be great, but our stay fell well short.
You come here for the setting: the island views and sunsets are amazing, and the puffins are very close by. We had three bedrooms and a large living room. Service was good. I'd bring breakfast, and maybe other meals too, unless you're happy to drive 30 minutes.
The reception staff were helpful and friendly, and gave us maps and information. The older building was clean and made a handy base for seeing puffins. Bring food or make a plan for meals. I don't think our room had a fridge.
We had the whole place to ourselves, and the owner kindly pointed us to a spot where we were sure to see Puffins. We spotted them by 5.30 pm. Looking back, we could have stayed in a bigger nearby town with more accommodation choices, since Runde didn't feel remote at all. There aren't many options on the island, and they're all relatively expensive. We'd read advice that you need to be there at dusk and should stay on the island, so we got caught in that tourist trap. Our room was stark, and the shared kitchen was basic, though there was plenty of hot water.
