Horten Apartment

The apartments are modern and clean, but staying here wasn’t much fun. Nobody changed my towel during the 14 days. Showers leave the whole bathroom floor wet, including under the toilet, and you can hear all the neighbours. There’s no socket beside the bed, so charging your phone means using the other side of the room. At the table, a drawer handle juts into your belly, and all you face is a wall. The room looks out either onto a crossroads or a Peugeot car centre. The laundry room closes after 11 pm, which means anyone working night shifts has to plan their washing carefully. The parking system was the most irritating part, and so Norwegian. You have to register your car even though parking right in front of the apartment is free, and the registration only lasts seven days. I was staying for 14, so I had to remember to renew it. On the day the war between Ukraine and Russia started, someone came by on the eighth morning, before I’d woken up after a night shift, and started writing me a 60 euro fine. The hotel manager stopped him. But why not register the parking for all 14 days when my stay is already registered for that long? Horten apartments aren’t in the centre of anything. There’s no rush-hour shopping mall or heavy traffic, just dull industrial buildings and a dog training meadow nearby. It’s hardly the end of the world if a car stays parked one extra day. Do something meaningful, go to Kiev, and give that yellow fine to Putin’s troops for unregistered parking. Stop this ridiculous theatre outside a regular apartment building where people obviously park when they’re staying there.

The staff were very helpful, and the location works perfectly for a short break. Historical sites, museums, beaches, the town centre, the harbour, and a Rema 1000 supermarket are all within walking distance. The apartment was practical, in very good condition, and had everything we needed.

A small single room, but super modern, clean, and nice. They were helpful by phone, and send you the door code by email.

Clean and simple, but does what you need. Good price, and a really good option if you’re travelling alone or staying for work.
