Food service was a bit of a mess, and the selection was small. Prices were high too: 50-60 kr for a small Coke Zero, and 50 kr for a giant ice cream. My pizza took 2-3 hours to arrive, while other guests waited four hours for burgers in buns. There’s more, but that’s enough to mention here.

We had booked a VIP concert package and were told to arrive early and on time. We did, but nothing was ready, and we waited and waited. The cabin was supposed to have a shared kitchen and bathroom, but the kitchen was closed and being used for storage, so food couldn’t be prepared. Our room wasn’t ready at check-in either; an hour and a half later, the toilet and shower still couldn’t be locked, and the key was missing. The guesthouse advertises a good wine list and local food, so we expected the three-course meal with wine pairing to be a sure thing. The wine was cheap, we checked the Vinmonopolet prices, and it came in similarly cheap glasses. But when the food finally arrived after a two-hour wait, it was good. The next day was less pleasant: rubbish everywhere, dirty tables, sticky floors from the concert the night before, and lots of people. There was a simple breakfast, but the surroundings didn’t make it tempting. Maybe it was a one-off and we were just unlucky. The place itself is idyllically located and a gem.

The setting is fantastic, but the food and service were a letdown. We had to fill our own water from an outdoor tap into an Aass brewery plastic glass. When I asked for a burger without tomato, the waiter said it was difficult because the chefs didn’t like extra changes to orders. It arrived with tomato anyway, and the patty was dense and tasteless. The pizzas had frozen bases and a tomato paste or similar sauce, and tasted like cardboard. With so many places to eat well in Portør/Kragerø, I’d avoid this one.

We had burgers and pizza for dinner, and neither was good. The burger was rock hard and tasted like ground beef; the pizza was like cardboard. Sorry, but this just doesn’t work.
