Lofthus Camping

The view and location are great, but there were too many people. For 540 NOK for one night in a camper, I expected better facilities. I waited in line to wash dishes, then found there wasn’t even a plug to close the sink. There were no paper towels in the kitchen either, so keeping the counter clean and dry was difficult. They should add another two or three washing machines.

The campsite sits in a superb location, but the access road is narrow and about 1.5 km long. Reservations aren’t possible, and during high season they don’t seem to need to attract guests. We arrived to find the campsite full, and they weren’t willing to offer us a spot for the next day either. It’s sad they don’t care.

The views are brutally good, the prices are very reasonable, and you can’t ask for more in Norway as someone sleeping in a camper, rooftop tent, regular tent, or car. The owner is very nice, a real Norwegian original, and can give advice on hikes up in the highlands.

There are some of the best views I’ve ever had from a camping lot, and the bathrooms are very clean and spacious. The location is beautiful. Most spots are for RVs and vans, so if you’re traveling with a tent during the busy season, arriving early may pay off.
