We loved having the evening sun and a wide sea view from our apartment right on the pier. Korshamn is a lovely little harbor on Norway’s southern tip, west of Lindesnes, with around 100 year-round residents and a long deep-sea fishing past. It’s one of Southern Norway’s oldest fishing villages. You can head out by boat, sea kayak, or SUP, or use the village as a base for island hopping among the nearby islands. There are plenty of pretty hiking trails, and divers can find some great spots just outside the door. The village also has a Convenience Store with really good service and a charming Pub that opens in summer or by request.

We rented a boat and had a great time exploring the nearby islands as a family. It’s a fun outing for everyone, and I’d recommend it. Just cross your fingers for good weather, since the North Sea is open just outside and can get rough.

There are lots of little islands nearby with small sandy beaches that are good for family swimming, plus lighthouses and lovely walks. I didn’t find a good spot for swimming in open water in town because there were so many boats around. Korshamn has a Tequilarock festival at the end of July, and Hausvik fort is close enough to reach by boat, car, or on foot. Lyngdal and the Sørlandsbadet swimming pool are about 15 km away, along with a large shopping center called Rom. The pedestrian part of town is reached by a narrow path behind the Nærbutikken and Pub. It makes for an easy 30-40 minute walk, past Norway’s smallest library, a small handmade shop, and an art gallery. The fisherman-style houses are beautifully decorated, and it’s a great place for photos. The Nærbutikk and Pub have good summer opening hours; in other seasons, they’re often where you can get groceries, with the basics and more, fishing supplies, and even medicine. There are outdoor seats where you can sit and take in the sea view. Boats often stop in Korshamn to refuel and buy groceries, then rest or stay overnight in the guest marina. There’s boat rental and accommodation too. Korshamn Rorbuer runs a biggest-fish-catch competition each summer, with the scale outside reception. They also have facilities for processing fish and a smoker, though you’re responsible for cleaning up the leftovers. Part of town is on a small island that you can only reach by boat. The little channel between looked wonderful on Halloween night, with families in old-fashioned costumes carrying oil lamps and coming across by boat for trick-or-treating.

The cabins are nice, the host is friendly, and the area is really beautiful. If you’re coming to fish, though, there are barely any fish around.

Really recommend staying here for a holiday. The staff are friendly and helpful whenever you need them.
