The main issue was room 11’s toilet. It wouldn’t flush right away, and a bathroom sign said to wait 5 to 10 minutes before trying. That’s unpleasant when someone else has already used it. After each flush, a loud, kettle-like whistling noise grew louder for at least 5 minutes. We wondered if it was some kind of alarm. At night it would wake everyone in the room. The staff must have known about it, but they put us in that room without mentioning it. We only stayed one night, luckily, and didn’t complain because raising an issue they already knew about didn’t seem useful. The hotel itself is lovely, in a good location, and authentic to 1836. The breakfast lady works hard to make sure guests eat well. Some old-building quirks, like wooden doors that need extra effort to close and having to carry bags up stairs because there’s no elevator, even felt almost romantic. Staff, please be honest with guests and fix the bathroom problems. This wonderful, authentic place deserves at least 4 stars.

The breakfast was excellent, and the women working here were lovely and helpful. The location is great, with nearby parking that was free over the weekend. We didn’t sleep much, though, because a washing machine rattled and banged loudly until midnight. There was no jug in the room, and the coffee machine wasn’t available until the breakfast area opened at 7:30.

The atmosphere is lovely and the food is good. The reception is set up at the bar, which makes the small area feel crowded. The extra chairs for our group were old and stained, and there were a few little marks on the tables too. A few small improvements would help. Otherwise it’s a great place to relax, and maybe rent a room, though I live only a few minutes away and haven’t stayed overnight.

The breakfast was a disaster for a hotel. The bathroom was cramped, with a toilet like one on a ferry or plane. When we arrived, the room was cold, the pipes made noise, the wallpaper was peeling, and the curtain rod was coming off the wall.

That fish soup was so tasty. I’m not even much of a fish fan, but it was amazing, the best I’ve ever eaten. I definitely recommend it! 🥰
