Vossestrand Hotel and Apartments

We stayed for a few nights as a couple. It was okay, but we expected more of a hotel experience, and this is just apartments. They charge for everything, including bed sheets and cleaning the apartment afterward. You might be better off picking the hotel right at the ski resort, where the ski pass and breakfast and such are included.

You’ll need to bring your own sheets and towels, or order them at reception for an extra charge, since they aren’t included in the rooms. The apartments are economical and tidy, with a nice mountain view. There’s also a lovely lounge area that feels stuck in the '90s, though not in a bad way.

Check-in and check-out went smoothly, and the kitchen had all the utensils we needed for cooking. The exterior looked lovely on arrival, and the location was picturesque, as Norway is. There isn’t much nearby, but the apartments are self-catering, so you can make your own food. Inside, though, there was a huge lump in the floorboards right by the doorway, making it hard to get in and out of the bathroom. The shower was a good size but ran out of hot water after about ten minutes, so only one of us could have half a shower. After a full day kayaking on the chilly fjords, we’d been looking forward to a proper shower. The boiler took a few hours to heat up again properly, and the shower also leaked a lot of water onto the floor, so we had to use one of our towels as a bath mat.

The apartment had everything we needed, though the bed linen cost extra on top of the accommodation price. We had a comfortable stay, with great views and a kind host.
