Rondablikk Hotel

The view is the one real plus. You’d be better off pitching your own tent here. The hotel is old and dated, and the bathroom sink is tiny, like a toilet sink. It wasn’t worth the money, more like a hostel in quality. The buffet food was reheated for the next day, and one morning there was no breakfast at all. It was meant to run from 8 to 10, but when we arrived at 9 everything was gone. Nobody apologized, and there was nothing else to buy. The next evening there was no buffet, just à la carte. With only three tables occupied, we still waited 2.5 hours for food. Some tables got dishes before us, but not all their food at once, so family members ended up finishing at different times. The woman who seemed to run the place was rude. Halfway through dinner, while we were still waiting for our food, she left with three pizzas for herself.

The location is fantastic, with endless possibilities, and I hope they manage to turn things around. But I won’t be back, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else go until they do. We booked a family room that was outdated, which was fine, but the kitchen was missing most of what we needed to cook even a simple breakfast. The shared restrooms and pool area were disgusting. From Friday to Sunday, they weren’t cleaned: toilet paper and soap dispensers stayed empty, and things left on the floor were still there. The young staff were okay, but not attentive, and I often saw them on their phones. The woman at reception was extremely rude. Her dog ran around the dining hall, and she said it wasn’t a problem or against restaurant rules. I also saw a worker come out of the kitchen holding the dog’s leash, which made me worry about food safety. The food was awful. The buffet seemed to be reheated, and none of us eight adults could really eat anything. When I raised our concerns at checkout, the woman had an excuse for everything and didn’t seem to care much. Surprisingly, she ended up cancelling the whole bill.

Lunch and dinner were at youth hostel level. The dining room got very noisy even when it was only half full, because of its architecture. The staff tried hard but weren’t especially attentive. The woman at reception was often unfriendly and seemed overwhelmed. Management seems to be running the hotel into the ground, cutting costs at every turn.

The price was tremendous value, and the food and bar were really good. After dinner, it was peaceful and cozy sitting with a drink by the glass walls and looking across the valley. Our room was clean, quiet, and recently renovated, with a gorgeous setting and a view of the Peer Gynt statue from the balcony. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
