Notodden’s center is right around the hotel, and parking is free. The price was surprisingly low, too. I’d had no real expectations for a hotel out in “nowhere,” but it turned out to be a gem. It’s newly refurbished to a very good standard, with nice decor, great furniture and an amazing bed. The TV is big but not smart, so bring a cable if you want to connect your phone. Breakfast is included, with a big spread and everything you could want. The pancakes were the best I’ve had at a hotel. Service was top notch. I highly recommend it.

There are restaurants, grocery stores and a shopping mall nearby. The nearest mall, which has a pharmacy, is about 2.8 km away, and Sommarland water park is a 30-minute drive. The hotel is old and could use some renovation. It can get quite warm in the room in summer, though staff can provide a fan if you need one.

The breakfast has improved a lot since my last visit, with a good selection and clearly marked allergy information. My room was clean and nice, the bathroom had been newly renovated, and the staff were polite and helpful.

The large room had some lake and mountain views, which earned the one star. Beyond that, the hotel is old, worn out and badly in need of renovation. The room’s furniture looked like it belonged in a secondhand shop; there were spots on the TV and lamps, and the bed felt worn through. At breakfast, the utensils and cups were dirty. There was no shower curtain or wall, so the bathroom flooded every time I showered. Service and standards were bare minimum, and staff uniforms would help.

Breakfast was OK, with both hot and cold food, but I had trouble finding clean cutlery and coffee cups. We were given a big room, though it badly needed an upgrade, like the rest of the old hotel. The employees don’t wear uniforms, and nobody greeted us. The place has potential, but in its current state, even two stars feels generous.
