There was leftover rubbish from previous guests in the apartments, and the breakfast was the only decent part of our stay. We rented an apartment at Thon Hotel Skeikampen and were first given 5001. When we moved the double bed to make a safe place for our small child to sleep, we found silverfish (skjeggkre) traps hidden behind bedroom furniture and under the kitchen units, with live catches. It seemed like an active infestation, and we wouldn’t have known otherwise. The desk moved us to 1001, where there were also traps, though no catches were visible. Staff had been in there before we arrived, so we can’t know whether any traps with catches had been removed. The day after we left 5001 because of the infestation, the hotel put other staff members in that apartment. I doubt they were told what had happened. I understand silverfish are becoming a bigger problem, but I expect a professional chain like Thon Hotels to take it seriously, isolate the issue, and work on getting rid of them before renting the unit again. The service was poor too. First we were asked to text photos, then half an hour later told to email them instead. Nobody offered to inspect the apartment, and the manager who was supposed to call the next day never did. The hotel felt focused on profit at the expense of guests and hygiene. I can’t recommend it, especially for families with children.

The cross-country tracks start right at the hotel, and there’s a huge network of perfectly groomed trails. We had a lovely winter break with the ski package, which included breakfast, dinner, and passes. Our corner room was spacious, and both meals had extensive buffets. The strawberry smoothie was a favorite.

The area is peaceful, with fresh air, and breakfast was tasty with lots of variety. I did miss having an espresso machine with cappuccino and similar options. I was on an organised tour with a Polish tour operator, and our group was not allowed to have dinner in the restaurant, even though people of other nationalities were eating there and seats were still free. Instead, we were seated in an unused part of the bar, away from the other organised groups. When I raised this, nobody said anything. I was very disappointed with the hotel’s quality and customer care. Without that dinner incident, I would have rated it higher, but after being treated that way I’ll avoid this brand in future.

The apartment had two bedrooms, a decent kitchen with appliances, a dining table, a TV area, a small balcony, and even a sauna next to the bathroom. It felt fresh and recently refurbished, and for the price it was a real bargain. These little cabins just up the hill from the hotel are a gem. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely be back!

The food and service at Thon Hotel Skeikampen were outstanding, and the staff were excellent. The rooms were very clean, with a traditional Norwegian look. The ski areas are groomed often and always in good shape. Skeikampen is a great spot for a break, with Nordseter and Sjusjeon also within driving distance for skiing.
