Thon Hotel Stavanger

After a long day travelling from the States, I arrived on my birthday to find balloons and a piece of cake in my room. That kind of care when you’re exhausted really showed how much they look after their guests. The staff were wonderful, and I’d stay again in a heartbeat just for how friendly they are. Breakfast was included, with so many delicious options. They really don’t spare any expense for guests. I did have one small issue: the TV box beeped randomly and intermittently. It took until my third night to work out where the sound came from, and I unplugged it for the rest of my stay. Just mentioning it in case it happens to you. I’d still recommend this place 100%.

A bus stop right outside makes the hotel very convenient if you’re taking the airport bus. It’s right in the heart of the city, too. This was my first stay at a Thon hotel, and I left very happy. The staff were fantastic, my room was big and comfortable, and breakfast was amazing and plentiful.

The location is handy, with restaurants, shops, public transport and a bus straight to Forus nearby. Still, compared with other Thon hotels I’ve stayed in, this one disappointed me. My room was small, the AC didn’t work, and the street was too noisy at night to leave the window open. Paint was peeling off the bathroom doorframe, and bugs were coming out of the wood. I told reception about my problems, but nothing was done. Breakfast was okay, though there was no espresso or fresh orange juice like at other Thon hotels. You also have to take stairs to reach the breakfast room, which is a nuisance with luggage. The gym is small. One treadmill was broken, and the workout machine was missing parts.

The included breakfast has a nice selection, and the hotel is fairly central for the old city and the ports. My room was comfortable, if a bit small, and the hallways looked less nice than the rooms. There’s no AC, which is typical for the area. If you want the room cooler, open the windows before bed. You can ask for a fan, and it may be worth requesting a room that doesn’t face directly out front if you’re after a quieter side. The front faces the main bus street, though evenings are generally quiet, especially with the windows closed.
