The setting is peaceful and scenic, with an interesting history. It’s also a sustainable hotel, and the restaurant serves food alongside compliments grown in its own garden.

My mum and I stayed for two nights and were sorry to leave; we’d happily have added a third. The views were stunning, and the hotel’s brutalist architecture looked great against the landscape. The staff and owners were lovely and very helpful. The meals were a highlight. They served traditional Norwegian food made with local vegetables, fish and meat, and put together delicious three course dinners for vegans too. The soups were especially tasty. The wine pairings worked well, and we also got to try some incredible local ciders. I’d definitely recommend the signature cocktail, made with gin infused with herbs and flowers from the hotel garden. We also hiked up Nipe mountain, a 700m climb that took around 4-5 hours. The scenery was spectacular along the way and at the top. Tusen takk!

I found this place by chance while trying to get out of the heavy Norwegian rain, and it was definitely worth staying. It’s a special hotel with a lovely minimalist design. Service was friendly and professional, and both breakfast and the three course dinner were excellent. The dinner used local ingredients and was prepared and presented with care.

The lakeside view is lovely, and the place feels cosy. I only spent one night, so I can’t say much about the area. Norway rocks anyway.
