We arrived before 10am and were told early check-in would cost 100KR per hour. Our Choice Elite benefit didn't apply here, so there was no early check-in or late check-out. If those benefits matter to you as a Choice Hotels elite member, be aware. We booked a Superior room with 1 double bed back in 6/11/25, but when we finally got our room, the receptionist told my wife they only had 2 singles and we could push them together. We were the earliest guests there that day, and I don't understand why the staff couldn't have arranged that themselves. Another couple was upgraded to a superior room, so it was frustrating that we weren't given the room we had booked. The check-in experience was the worst part. By about 2:30pm, around 5-6 couples and friends were waiting in the lobby with us. The receptionist checked in 3-4 of those waiting, then skipped us and another couple to serve people who had just arrived. When the other woman complained that we were still waiting, the Asian receptionist said, “I don't have to check you guys in until 3pm!!! And everybody will get a room.” When the woman tried to continue, she was told, “please stopped already with this subject!!” I've stayed at 3-400 different hotels after pandamic and have top elite status with Marriott, Hyatt, and Hilton, and I've never seen service handled this way. Later, the receptionist told the other woman she'd personally upgraded them. What about us? I also asked about dinner and breakfast times and the jacuzzis while waiting. She literally told me to read the paper on the counter and scan the code for the jacuzzi. When I asked for more detail, she got annoyed and said she'd explain everything at 3pm, which she hadn't done for any of the other guests by then. There was nobody checking out, she wasn't on the phone, and she wasn't doing anything else. I later learned the shifts were 7-3pm, 3pm-11pm, and 11pm-to 7am, so maybe she was trying to get people checked in before leaving. We also used the no hassle check out email and its chat function to ask about elite late check-out, but got no reply. Close to noon, the same Asian lady replied while on duty. If nobody is going to support that service, they might as well stop offering it like Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt already do. We understand service work can be difficult, but customers shouldn't be talked back to after showing such impatience and rudeness. We have Titanium, Diamond, and Globist status with other hotel groups, and know what we've experienced. We had considered staying a second night, but were glad we didn't. We moved to comfort express Tromso, which was cheaper and had a lower rating, yet they checked us in around 12:45pm without question and patiently explained the hotel facilities.

Dinner, bed, and breakfast is a useful package, and there was plenty of food. Breakfast was the better meal, though still fairly average. The main dish at dinner was tasty, but on both evenings I stayed it was tepid at best. It would've been much better hot. The rooms also felt shabby and due for modernization. For the price, the stay fell short. I've stayed at the same chain in Bergen and Oslo, and those hotels were better value, more modern snd much more stylish.

The food was a highlight. Breakfast had lots of variety, and dinner exceeded our expectations with a similar range of tasty options. The afternoon “Fika” was small pieces of cake, sometimes with fruit. Tea and coffee were available downstairs all day. The front desk was really helpful and even contacted us when our flight was delayed and we missed our check-in time. We found the room a bit too dark, and the phone charging holder above the bed felt like something you could hit your head on. Those were minor things. The room was reasonably quiet, though now and then we heard the cleaning staff, which is totally normal. We didn't try the gym or the hottub. The location was pretty good.

We stayed at the Aurora hotel from 20th of Jan to 24th of Jan 2026 in a Superior room. I think it was 532, but I may be wrong. It gave us much more space, a couple of comfy chairs, a coffee table, a kettle, and a fridge. I thought the extra money was worth it, though that's up to each person. The décor was dated, some lamps didn't work, and most of the hotel could use a refresh. To me, it felt more like a 3 star hotel in the UK. Still, it's a good entry level place right in the centre of Tromso, on the harbour and minutes from the main shopping street. Buses stop close by, and you can order a Taxi on a device in reception. The hotel includes half board, tea and coffee all day, cake from 3-5pm, and dinner from 6-8pm. The food selection was very good, considering they cater to people from many cultures and countries with different tastes. The dinners may have saved the two of us around £400 compared with eating out every evening. There are plenty of nearby places for a nice lunch out and a chance to try Norwegian food. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and would consider using the Aurora hotel again if we make it back to Tromso.

The sauna had an awesome view, and there was also a gym with a good selection of weights. I hadn't expected dinner, or even a nice cake and coffee during the day, but all of that was included, along with a great breakfast. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Thanks Aleksander for the night chats and recommendations. Perfect location, I'd definitely stay again.
