Smarthotel Tromso

We had a smart superior room, which I think is slightly bigger than the regular ones, and it had everything we needed. The breakfast was delicious and had lots of choices. Staff were helpful too, and happily lent us a hairdryer when ours wasn't working. The location was great for getting back on foot after our northern lights tours, even at 2am. I'd recommend it to friends visiting Tromso.

The location is handy, close to the main shops, restaurants and cafes, with only a short walk to bus stops, tour meeting points and the port. The place is quiet, basic and functional. Rooms are warm, cosy and clean, though very small. One thing that didn't work well was the cleaning schedule. Rooms are cleaned every four days, and when I asked for towels and cleaning, neither was done. Using the same towels and sheets for that long isn't great. There may be better options elsewhere.

I really liked staying at smarthotel and would probably book again. The breakfast was amazing, with lots to choose from, gluten-free options, clear allergen labels and a decent range of plant-based milks. The downstairs lobby was cosy, and there was always free coffee and hot water. Sometimes they put out snacks too. Staff downstairs were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in the city centre, one street from the main street. The rooms are small, and cleaning is only every four days, but that didn't bother me personally. The one downside was the hacking incident around the time I booked. I kept getting scam messages before the trip, but checked with the hotel and they confirmed they were scams, so I was fine.

I like having a small desk for my laptop and writing reviews, and the single bed suits me. Who needs more if you're not sharing with fellow travelers? The rooms aren't big, but they're just large enough to feel like home. Citybox Hotels in several Norwegian cities are on my favorites list, even though nothing beats the Wellington in New York, which closed during COVID. After 75+ Learning Experiences, I've stayed in plenty of hotels. The breakfast here is magnificent, apart from the fake scrambled eggs. I just take a boiled egg, peel it, scramble it and enjoy. There's also a spot by reception to sit for drinks and conversation. I'll keep coming back to Citybox Hotels with my groups. Nobody has ever complained. And why sleep? The fun is outside anyway.
