Tromso Activities Hostel

This place is conveniently close to the city centre, and it was one of the cheaper choices while hotel prices had tripled for northern lights season. The kitchen lets you buy groceries and cook, though it gets busy around 6pm and you need to label your food. I was in the house with reception. The bed itself was okay, but the room isn't soundproof, so you hear people on the stairs. I slept on the top bunk and had to be careful getting up because the ceiling is right there, especially if you're tall. Towels are available, but I had to ask at reception. Bring shampoo; some guests had left some behind. There is a hairdryer. There are two toilets. The second-floor one has a shower separate from the toilet; downstairs they share a room, and that one gets dirtier in the evening. Luckily, the cleaner comes around noon every day, and it's clean then. I met the dog once, and it made me want to give the place more stars. It's too cramped for the dog to run around, though, so it lives somewhere else.

Really cosy place right in the city centre, with shops and tours close by. It felt homely, the beds were comfortable, and the rooms stayed lovely and warm even though it was cold outside. The bathrooms were kept clean. I'd recommend it.

The common living area was cosy and had a good evening atmosphere, and the lockers were very spacious. The bathrooms and kitchen were clean, and the location made it easy to get around to everything. Still, the hostel felt overpriced for what you get. My mattress sagged into a curve and seemed years past needing replacement, and there was no bedside tray for personal things. There were old water bottles and airline bag tags left in the room. I later heard guests could get a free towel and use a jacuzzi, but nobody told me about either.

Robin's Northern Lights Tour was the best tour I've done in Tromso. His stories, knowledge, and kindness made it special, and I'm already looking forward to coming back. Virginia made up the beds perfectly, and she, Robin, and the other volunteers were exceptionally kind, helpful, and easy to reach. One of the best hostels I've stayed in.
