Thon Hotel Polar

We had no option to move rooms because the hotel was fully booked. They offered us a 50% discount, but even at half price, the condition of the room was unacceptable, and we had to spend the night there during our holiday. The Business Room was spacious, but the name felt misleading when the view was a neighboring wall, the floor was damaged, and the room clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. There was a lot of long hair in the shower and around the room, plus hair and dried urine in the toilet. This was among the worst room conditions we’ve encountered. Thon Hotel Polar needs to review its room standards, improve housekeeping checks, and do overdue renovations. The rate wasn’t justified. On future trips to Tromsø, we’ll stick with Thon Hotel Tromsø, where our experiences have been excellent.

Breakfast was included and really good. The hotel is close to restaurants and shops, and it’s an easy walk to the harbor for tours and views. The rooms are a little small, but perfectly fine. Very nice stay.

On Sunday, December 28, the day I was leaving, I asked a staff member where I could mail a postcard to Japan. Most offices were closed, and he wasn’t sure where the post office was, so he offered to send it for me instead. It arrived today. I really appreciate that kindness, and I recommend staying here.

The buffet breakfast was incredible, and the hotel is close to everything worth visiting in Tromso. Best of all was the bedding. After a long night chasing northern lights, that duvet and pillow felt exquisite. The room was great and spacious too.
