Paulo and Julia have brought this guest house back to life, spending the past year carefully restoring its tired, worn rooms. My room suited me perfectly, with windows on two sides overlooking the fjord. I could happily spend hours watching the ferries cross the water. They’re both lovely hosts, friendly and kind, and always willing to help. If you’re lucky, Paulo might play some music for you on the piano. He’s brilliant. I had a super stay, would happily return, and highly recommend the place. Thank you both.

The ferry docked right beside the hotel, which was easy to reach by car. It was electric and quiet enough that we couldn't hear it from inside. We stayed in autumn and had a great time. The new owners were very friendly and did everything they could to make our visit enjoyable. Our room and bathroom were very clean, the beds were comfortable, and we stayed warm despite the cold weather outside. The view from the room was magnificent. We’ll definitely come back and recommend the hotel to everyone.

The staff are friendly and ready to go the extra mile, with excellent service throughout. They also gave us useful tour advice and suggestions on where to eat. The rooms are very clean and recently renovated. I highly recommend this guest house.

Paolo and his wife recently refurbished this B&B hotel. Paolo was a warm host with plenty of ideas for hikes, meals, and trips. The clean, comfortable room had two single beds and a lovely fjord view. The electric ferries outside were quiet, and I enjoyed the occasional seagull calls. Breakfast was a generous continental spread with excellent espresso and an omelette. A little salami or ham could round out the buffet. There’s a limited dinner menu. Vik, 11 km away, has a supermarket and restaurants. Day 1: After arriving, we took the complimentary passenger ferry to Hella, then walked for a short two-hour hike towards and above a waterfall. Day 2: We hiked through the forest, climbing more than 500 m for a view of Sognefjord behind the hotel. By ferry we drove to Dragsvik and visited Balestrand, a more upmarket and busier town. We preferred Vik and Vangsnes. Dinner was at Vik Thai restaurant by the water. Day 3: We drove to Gudvangen and took a two-hour fjord cruise through Naeroyfjord to Flam. We spent three and a half hours in Flam, walking up to cafe restaurant IPA for beef stew and a view over town. There’s also an option to take a bus to a fjord lookout. Day 4: We had a lovely 90-minute inflatable boat trip at Vik. Book through Paolo for a small discount. Day 5: We drove an hour and a half to Nigardsbreen Glacier for a lovely hike. On the way back, we stopped in Sogndal for a beer and a great pulled pork burger at Dampskipskaien Cafe.

The welcome is what made our stay: it felt like joining a caring family, a real home away from home. We felt lucky to have booked four nights. After just one or two, we’d have been sorry to leave so soon. Paolo and Gullveig have made this place special since taking over and refurbishing it. It’s right at the ferry terminal, making it easy to head in three directions and reach two Scenic Routes. The views take in the waterfall, fjord, mountains, and ferries, while double glazing keeps outside noise out. Rooms are spotless and comfortable. Breakfast includes local treats, and Paolo makes a great omelette. The evening menu is limited but lovely. You can also eat in Vik or Balestrand by car, or reach Dragsvik as a foot passenger by ferry. We absolutely recommend it.
